About Capitec

Established in 2001, Capitec Bank is a South African retail bank offering simplified, affordable and transparent banking using innovative technology. Capitec operates as a retail bank that serves both individuals and businesses, but does not provide business banking for close corporations, companies, partnerships or trust. The bank claims to focus on simplifying the banking experience, according to their literature.

Capitec’s business model is focused on providing a value to its customers by proving low costs, giving customers the freedom to pay as they transact, and by offering the highest interest rate on deposits. As of 2017, Capitec has become the second largest retail bank in the country, based on the number of customers, with 120,000 customers opening new accounts per month.

Capitec maintains 500 retail branches nationwide, over 3000 own or partnership ATMs and has over 6.2 million customers. The bank offers its clients the Global One account, which is a transacting / savings account and credit facility rolled into one.

Capitec Graduate Program

In 2016, Capitec launched a Graduate Development Program to find talented university graduates and innovative thinkers who share the company’s values. The Graduate Program is aimed at graduates who are willing to take the opportunity to experience something worth they’re time and effort for a better future. The purpose of the program is to select individuals who show potential to grow as leaders at the bank. The program is 18-months long during which participants are exposed to several departments and divisions. Within the program participants learn first-hand on how they all work and fit together in the greater scheme of operations. The idea behind the program is that participants will use the insights they gain to be a better, more informed leader that can influence in any position.

Like any other employee, you will earn a monthly salary and have set working hours. The difference is that during the 18 months of the graduate program, graduates rotate between business divisions.

In addition, as Capitec Graduate Program candidates you will be mentored by senior managers who are specifically assigned to guide you through the process. You will also have a line manager who oversees what you do and checks in with you during your rotation.

You will also be invited to attend special business and leadership training workshops and coaching sessions led by external consultants of the Capitec Graduate Program. They will help train you and build your leadership skill set.

The Capitec Graduate Program candidates will start off by training to work as service consultants in branches. Capitec will choose which branch you should start with. Within the Capitec Graduate Program, you will have the opportunity to present a business idea to the top Capitec executives.

Available Capitec Graduate Programs

  • Senior Decision Scientist

Within this position, your job is to deliver business solutions via a collaborative approach involving mathematical formulae, business tactics, technological applications and behavioral sciences to help senior management make data driven decisions.

  • Insights Analyst

In this position, your responsibilities are: to provide and analyze relevant marketing insights relating to program and campaign performance in order to drive business and client value; to provide client oriented frameworks, research and insights that can be applied in selection, opportunity detection and work prioritization, and; to integrate reporting and analysis for marketing that can be distributed to business stakeholders.

  • Recruitment Consultant – Pipeline

Taking this position means that you are responsible to plan and execute the talent acquisition process in accordance with the approved staffing requirements, job profiles, talent reviews and applicable standards within a dedicated client segment. Also, to consult and advise on specialized talent resourcing processes and procedures, and/or related HR processes.

  • Lead: Decision Science

Within this position, your purpose is to ensure the deliverables within the area of responsibility aligns with the objectives, plans, processes and standards of Credits Decision Science, and to lead a team of specialists within the Collections, Recoveries and Account Management / Granting Model function to perform analysis that translates active business data into usable strategic information in order to inform the business on any critical and measurable credit and risk indicators.

  • Analyst Developer: Digital Solutions

By taking this position, you are responsible for the development, testing and implementation of digital projects according to delivery standards and specifications.

  • Developer: Front End / Analyst Developer: Front End / IT Developer: Front End

Your responsibility in one of these positions is for the writing and coding of individual programs for Capitec Bank Front-End applications according to specifications.

  • Analyst Developer: Virtual Banking

In this position, you are responsible for the design and development of new Capitec Bank Front-End applications according to specifications.

  • Architect: Front End

Within this position, you are responsible for producing a comprehensive technical specification that offers a technical viable solution and addresses the business requirements. Your job is also to design test plans and provide guidelines to facilitate performance and stress testing, and to conduct critical evaluation of architectural and design patterns and principles.

  • Developer: Digital Solutions

As part of the digital solutions team, you will be directly involved in and responsible for driving the bank’s digital future by working in one of Capitec’s digital delivery teams that design and build the digital initiatives of the organization.

  • Data Governance Analyst

The main purpose of this position is the maintenance and execution of a Data Governance framework, policies and standards, as well as Data Management comprising Metadata, Data Quality and Security & Protection management.

Prior to starting your application, make sure that you have met the specific requirements based on the position you are willing to take and the below-mentioned general requirements:

  • Hold a minimum of Grade 12 National Certificate / Vocational
  • Hold a relevant degree within the position you are applying for
  • Hold a relevant post graduate degree (preferred)
  • Have at least analytical, communications, and numerical reasoning skills (further required skills may vary for each position)
  • Be a computer literate (able to operate in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook)
  • Have no criminal record
  • Be able and willing to work in an open plan environment

Shortlisted candidates will be notified for an online interview via Skype and, if they make it past the online interview, will also be invited for 3 additional interviews at the Johannesburg offices, with the last interview being held in Capitec’s head office in Stellenbosch. After completion of all interviews and if you succeed in all of them, you will be required to take a number of internal assessment tests before being accepted to start the Capitec Graduate Program. You shall not worry about moving here and there, for the bank will also help cover your relocation costs when you move.

During the interview process, you express your fields of interest. You are then selected based on your interests, skills and aptitude to become a permanent employee in a specific division.
