About DSV Learnership Programme

In the transport and logistics business, the DSV Learnership Programme gives a chance for jobless and inexperienced South African youths to get essential work experience. Through the programme, applicants may always get a theoretical foundation as well as professional working experience through a combination of academic classes and hands-on experience gained through direct application.

You will be expected to develop the skills, information, and experience that will allow you to advance your qualifications in the future once you have successfully finished the programme.

The DSV Learnership is a 12-month programme that incorporates a variety of activities. Candidates will be paid a stipend on a monthly basis. Learners, on the other hand, are responsible for the payment of their own transportation, lodging, and meal expenses.

The Available Courses

As a future employee in this critical business, you will become a vital component of the storage, transit, and exchange of commodities that takes place in virtually every organisation on the planet. When you graduate from DSV Learnership with the most up-to-date, industry-relevant skills in Transport and Logistics, a plethora of new employment prospects will open up to you.

Learnership at DSV is designed and delivered in collaboration with some of the top trainers in the industry, ensuring that your career is in the best possible hands. There are a variety of learnership programmes available via DSV in the following areas:

1. Business Administration NQF 4

This course will teach you the mechanics of business through lessons in foundations such as finance, accounting and marketing. You will also have the opportunity to learn about more specialised areas during the course. Additionally, you will learn how to use data to solve issues, as well as how to communicate effectively and lead a team of people.

2. Generic Management NQF 4

Learn how to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences inside your organisation, from your team members to important decision-makers, by participating in this training. In a similar vein, you may learn key communication techniques that will enable your future staff to work together toward common goals.

3. Project Management NQF 4

Project management is, at its core, the discipline of bringing ideas to fruition and seeing them through to completion. By completing this course, you will have an understanding of how professionals plan, budget, prioritise, and execute projects, which will assist you in doing the same in your professional life.

4. Road Transport Supervision NQF 4

This learnership introduces learners to new concepts and learning activities that they may apply immediately in the work environment. Learners who successfully complete the course will acquire a certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), which will open up prospects for professional growth within their organisation and throughout the industry.

5. Freight Forwarding & Customs Clearance NQF 3

By completing this DSV Learnership, you will be able to effectively plan and execute shipments using any form of transportation. You may learn how to investigate routes, prices, and carriers and offer quotations to customers, as well as how to manage transportation documents, make plans for shipments, and keep track of shipments in your career.

6. Freight Handling NQF 3

This qualification aims to give those working in the business with the foundations and beginning skills required to properly handle freight, work as a productive team member, and perform the activities necessary to contribute to the efficient processing of height.

7. Warehouse & Retail NQF 3

This learnership is intended for people who seek to get a fundamental understanding of the retail industry, and it is intended to assist those applicants in learning, developing, and practising the skills necessary for employment and/or career advancement. It offers learners with a fundamental grasp of the retail industry, including concepts such as customer service and teamwork.

8. Generic Management: Inventory and Inventory Control NQF 4

During this course, you will get an understanding of essential inventory principles, such as categorisation, costs, and benefits. You will have a better grasp of inventory models once you have completed the course.

Qualification

To be qualified for the DSV Learnership, you must:

  • Have completed Grade 12 (or equivalent)
  • A South African citizen
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 30
  • Be available to work for a year, full time

DSV Learnership Requirements

Grab this opportunity to gain 12-month hands-on work experience in one of DSV’s busy warehouses or distribution centres, plus a nationally-recognised qualification. You will also receive a monthly stipend and time off to attend compulsory classes where required. It is mandatory to upload the below documentation with your application:

  • ID
  • Latest CV
  • Matric Certificate or latest academic results

Also, note that you may be required to prepare other documents as a part of your further stages in the application process. The learnership programme is generally offered on a yearly basis so you should check the official website regularly. The information about the opening and closing date is unclear; therefore, you should check the site for such a confirmation.

Timeline of the Application and Learnership Implementation

The learnership programme is due to commence on 1 July for both learners with disabilities (in Gauteng only) and other learners (nationally). Due to the high volume of applications received, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Should an external candidate not hear from DSV within four weeks following their application, they should consider their application unsuccessful.

Strictly fair and non-discriminatory selection procedures will be followed. DSV uses Affirmative Action (AA) measures in an endeavor to redress the disadvantages in employment experienced by designated groups. Where possible, preference will be given to candidates from the designated groups as defined in the Employment Equity Act and in line with DSV’s Employment Equity Plans.
