The Ekurhuleni Municipality at a Glance
Located on the plateau that is the Highveld at about 1600 meters in altitude, South Africa, the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is a metropolitan municipality that forms the local government of the East Rand region of Gauteng. Ekurhuleni is one of the five districts of the Gauteng province and one of the eight metropolitan municipalities of South Africa. The most common native language spoken by its 3.17 million people is IsiZulu, as of the 2001 census. The City of Ekurhuleni is highly urbanized. However, the north especially has high-potential agricultural land.
The Ekurhuleni Municipality provides sustainable and people-centered developmental services that are affordable, appropriate and of a high quality. Work in the Ekurhuleni Municipality
The City of Ekurhuleni offers employment opportunities in four different types of employment. These include:
- Permanent: A pre-determined contract without an end date to employment.
- Fixed Term: A contract that ends on a fixed date.
- Temporary: Short term employment with a duration of up to six months.
- Skills Development: AN opportunity offered to inexperienced young adults that include Learnerships, Work Integrated Learning, and Internships.

Applying for a Job in the Ekurhuleni Municipality
The City of Ekurhuleni no longer accepts manual submissions of job applications at customer care centers and human resources. Online submissions replace the time-consuming manual process and enable the City to fast-track the whole recruitment process.
The very first thing you need to do to apply for a job in the City of Ekurhuleni is to go to the Ekurhuleni Municipality official website, then register an account. Click on “My Account Options’ then the “Register” button. Create a username, input a password and provide an e-mail address. Complete all of the other required fields and note your newly created username and password for future log in.
Once you are logged into your account, create your candidate profile and upload required documentation. In this section, you will be required to upload your resume. To do this, click “Browse” and select the relevant file. The system uploads the file and extracts some data included in the resume. Once the uploading process is complete, you must verify the fields containing values automatically extracted from the resume. You may have to manually correct or fill out some of them.
After uploading your resume, enter your personal information (name, address, etc.). Fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory. Subsequently, fill out the general questions by answering the questions truthfully to the best of your knowledge.
Once all of the above have been completed, fill out your educational information. To create one education, click “Add Education” and then add the relevant information. To remove an education from the list, identify it, and then click “Remove Education”.
Continue to fill out your employment history / work experience. The steps on how to do this is similar to the education section. To create one work experience, click “Add Work Experience”. To remove a work experience form the list, identify it, and then click “Remove Work Experience”.
Furthermore, complete your accomplishment information by adding certifications and licenses to your profile. To add a certification, click “Add Certification” and enter relevant information on the field that appears on the screen. To remove a certification from the list, identify it, and then click “Remove Certification”.
Moving on to the next step, attach your files to your profile. Please note that you cannot attach a file that exceeds the allocated limit of 5MB. Please scan and attach all your files as one file, preferably in .pdf format.

Search for vacancies here: http://www.ekurhuleni.gov.za/vacancies. You can apply for a position only when it is advertised on the web.
After submitting your application, you can track the status of your application so you wouldn’t miss out on further notifications. Your contact details, as captured on your profile, will be used to notify you on the status of your application once a decision is made. Ensure that you enter the correct and up-to-date contact details.
If you are being considered for the position, you will receive notifications and correspondence from the Ekurhuleni Municipality. You can check the status of your application under the “My Job” section on the City’s official recruitment website.
Please note that there is no payment required for any positions at the City. Also, the online application process is the only official way to apply for any position. Application submitted manually will not be accepted.
