Job Position: Operator
Location: Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa
The profession of an Operator within the context of pharmaceutical manufacturing plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of production processes. Operators are responsible for a variety of tasks throughout the manufacturing and packaging of pharmaceutical products, from equipment operation to troubleshooting and maintenance. Here’s a more detailed explanation of the profession:
- Equipment Operation: Operators are trained to operate specialized machinery and equipment used in pharmaceutical manufacturing. This includes various types of production and packaging machinery, such as mixers, granulators, tablet presses, encapsulators, filling machines, labeling machines, and packaging equipment. They must ensure that these machines are operated correctly and efficiently to meet production targets while adhering to safety and quality standards.
- Preparation and Inspection: Before commencing production, Operators are tasked with preparing and cleaning work areas and equipment to ensure they meet hygiene and safety standards. They conduct pre-production checks, such as environmental assessments and equipment inspections, to ensure everything is in proper working order. Additionally, they verify the performance of scales and measuring equipment to maintain accuracy in ingredient measurements.
- Production Processing: During production, Operators oversee the manufacturing process, monitoring equipment performance, and ensuring that production runs smoothly. They are responsible for tasks such as clearing and feeding the production line, conducting end-of-line packing and inspections, and performing central lining reviews to optimize production settings for efficiency and quality.

Eligibility:

- National Certification (N4) or Matric with 0-2 years of related experience
- Background in manufacturing preferred
- Basic technical knowledge of pharmaceutical production processes, procedures, systems, and equipment
