Job Position: Registered Nurse (Theatre)
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse (Theatre) to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in our theatre department, catering to disciplines such as ophthalmology, plastic surgery, maxillofacial, and orthopedic surgery.
The role of a Registered Nurse (Theatre), commonly referred to as a Theatre Scrub Sister or Scrub Nurse, is pivotal in the operating theater environment. These healthcare professionals play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of surgical procedures, maintaining patient safety, and providing quality care throughout the perioperative period. Here’s an in-depth exploration of the profession:
Key Responsibilities:
- Preoperative Preparation: Scrub nurses are responsible for preparing the operating room, ensuring that all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and sterile. They collaborate with the surgical team to create a conducive environment for the procedure.
- Sterile Technique: During surgery, scrub nurses maintain strict sterile technique, ensuring that the surgical field remains free from contamination. They assist the surgical team by passing instruments, handling sterile equipment, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon.
- Patient Advocacy: Scrub nurses advocate for patient safety and well-being throughout the surgical process. They verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure, and communicate effectively with the surgical team to address any concerns or issues that may arise.

Eligibility:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- SANC Registered
- Qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing Science advantageous
- Private Hospital experience in theatre as a Scrub Nurse
- Preferably have experience in an Ophthalmology Theatre
- Ability to work flexi hours and overtime as required
- Availability for week/weekend standby
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer literate
