Training Force Programs

Training Force is a registered training provider focused on delivering industry and job-specific skills assessments and training interventions to businesses and their employees across a variety of industries. Since its establishment in 2003, Training Force has provided over 3,000 companies with training interventions and up-skilled over 55,000 workers through its branches across South Africa.

Training Force aims to provide businesses with a more productive workforce by delivering practical training programs that up-skill and uplift employees. The training programs offered by Training Force are aligned with SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority), the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and accredited with SETA Quality Assurance departments.

Services offered by Training Force include trade apprenticeships, learnerships, compliance training, skills programs, and short courses.

  • Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships combine theory, practical work and workplace practice in a chosen trade field, and in the case f a listed trade ends in a trade test and an artisan certificate of competence. Apprenticeships are aimed at developing trade-specific skills. In South Africa there are several industries that desperately need skilled artisans. Apprenticeships at Training Force offered in two fields: Construction and Health & Safety.

  • Learnerships

Learnership is a structured program in which a learner engages in theoretical and practical learning. This leads to an occupational related qualification registered on the National Qualification Framework (NQF) with the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA). Learnerships at Training Force are offered in the following fields: Agriculture, Business, Construction, Education Training & Development, Health & Safety, Hospitality, Manufacturing & Engineering, Technology, Transport & Logistics, and Wholesale & Retail.

  • Compliance Training

Compliance training refers to the process of educating employees on laws and regulations that apply to their day-to-day job responsibilities. It guides and informs employees on the laws and regulations pertaining to their industry or specific job function, ensuring a safe working environment. Compliance training at Training Force are offered in the following fields: Construction, Cranes, Health & Safety, Lifting Trucks, Plant Machinery, and Professional Driving.

UNIC Pretoria Internship Program

The United Nations Information Center (UNIC) in Pretoria provides opportunities for university-level students to undertake internships. UNIC Pretoria internship programs are unpaid with no stipends at all. Students can utilize and enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments, while supporting the work of UNIC. An internship with UNIC provides exposure to the daily activities undertaken by the office, as well as an opportunity to gain first-hand experience on a diverse range of topics and issues comprising the work of the United Nations.

Other opportunity:  SAPS Learning Programme / Basic Police Training Development

Interns get involved, inter alia, in assisting with media monitoring, drafting press reviews, reports and media analyses, preparing speeches on particular UN-related topics, researching background information in response to queries and providing substantive assistance in the dissemination of information and other logistical support to the center, including assisting the UNIC librarian. Much of the work is ‘reactive’ and can include a very diverse range of responsibilities outside the specific terms of reference.

Interns are assigned to areas according to their specific competencies in any of the following: Communication, Administration, Information Technology, and Library Science. The internship period is for a fixed period of 3 months initially and this can be extended to 6 months contingent on performance, availability and the agreement of the intern and the UNIC office.

Prospective interns are expected to be in their 3rd year of above of study i.e. Honors, Masters, PhD, in any of the following fields: International Relations, Political Studies, Communication, Journalism, Information Technology, Library Science, Human Resources, Administration and related subjects.

Hospitality Training at CHS

The Capital Hotel School (CHS) has been opened since January 2001 in Pretoria, offering relevant and current accredited hospitality education and training programs to school leavers and employed staff; empowering aspiring and qualified chefs and hospitality management candidates to get employment, advance their skill set and excel in the workplace.

CHS has developed accredited blended learning skills programs and learnerships that offer employees in the hospitality industry a chance to up-skill themselves or acquire full qualifications within their field of expertise. Courses at CHS are compliant with accreditation requirements, while training material is aligned with industry requirements to ensure work place opportunities. Capital Hotel School strives to create a culture of listening to ensure industry relevance. It cultivates this culture through listening to alumni and pertinent industry bodies. CHS is formalizing a listening culture through the introduction of an advisory board. Below are the courses offered by CHS:

  • Introduction to Professional Cookery – National Certificate

This introduction to becoming an Occupational Chef has been developed to offer a wide spectrum of unemployed persons and school leavers the opportunity to learn and study the foundations of the culinary world and to gain credits towards the more advanced qualifications available which will eventually qualify the individual towards becoming a qualified chef.

  • Professional Chef Qualification – National & International Qualification

The Professional Chef Qualification has been developed to provide aspiring chefs with a fundamental grounding in all disciplines relating to the production of top quality cuisine, health and safety measures, and the ability to manage a kitchen. It brings together elements of food and beverage preparation and service as well as management and is applicable to all sectors of the Hospitality Industry ranging from small restaurants to large-scale hotels. The qualification builds on other certificates and diplomas and provides articulation with Gaming, Travel and other Tourism industries.

  • USA Hospitality Food & Beverage Service Internship – National & International Qualification

This program offers participants the opportunity to gain theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in the food and beverage service operations within the hospitality industry. Within the program, you will master new skills and technologies by being exposed to American standards of service and management.

  • Hospitality Management Program – National & International Qualification

This qualification has been developed for persons aspiring to become national or international supervisors / managers in any of the 3 Front of House Departments of the Hospitality Industry. It brings together hospitality management elements which comprise of accommodation services (housekeeping), front office (reception), food preparation, food and beverage services and human resource and business management principles.

  • Pastry Program – National & International Qualification

This qualification has been developed to provide aspiring pastry-chefs with an introduction to the hospitality industry, elements of health, safety and nutrition and the preparation, cooking and finishing of dishes using a range of different cookery methods.

  • Professional Chef Qualification (Specialization Pastry) – National & International Qualification

This qualification has been developed to provide aspiring chefs with a fundamental grounding in all disciplines relating to the production of top quality cuisine, health and safety measures and the ability to manage a kitchen. This qualification enables students to gain full a Chef’s qualification with the benefits of specializing in the pastry fields. It brings together elements of food and beverage preparation and service as well as management and is applicable to all sectors of the Hospitality Industry ranging from small restaurants to large-scale hotels.

GetOn Skills Development Centre Courses and Trainings in Pretoria

The GetOn Skills Development Centre in Pretoria was established in 2006 with the aim to instilling fundamental skills within impoverished communities in Pretoria, Gauteng. GetOn aims to alleviate poverty through training programs that include Basic Computer Skills, Office Administration, Point-of-Sale, Bake for Profit, Barista Skills, Entrepreneurial training, GetOn Enterprise Development (GED), Life Skills and Basic Business Skills training.

GetOn Skills Development Centre provides training to students between the ages of 18 to 30, of whom 100% of the students are black South Africans. GetOn plays a prominent role in the retail sector in Pretoria, as it provides high caliber staff that have exceeded in its holistic training programs that integrates Life Skills a==into all the courses, into the economic workforce of South Africa. GetOn Skills Development Centre works with corporate and retail partners to ensure all GetOn courses are presented on the required level and that the content is locally relevant to the needs of industry.

GetOn provides courses in Advanced Computing: Office Administration, Point of Sales (POS), Call Center Training, Bake to Profit, Job Readiness Workshop, Life Skills, and Barista. Besides that, GetOn also regularly hosts workshops. Life Skills, Business Skills and a Health and Wellness Workshop are part of all its courses.

  • Corporate Training

The Schools Outreach program is designed to help students enhance their natural business skills while gaining knowledge of the challenges and rewards of starting a business. Students will embark on a journey discovering themselves, their decisions, and their goals as they become entrepreneurs and how this can play an important role in their lives.

  • Entrepreneurial Course

The aim of services SETA aligned entrepreneurial course is to help business-minded students to develop economic skills that will enable them to start up their own businesses of successfully manage already running businesses. Students will have acquired an understanding of entrepreneurship and possess the management skills to run a small business. Central to the learning process is an introduction into marketing and the need to identify and investigate best practices. The students will be able to discuss the importance of product-planning and different methods that can be used to calculate the cost and selling-price of stock.
