The Murray & Roberts Bursaries will be awarded to students studying towards BSc, BEng or BTech qualifications with outstanding grades in the following fields of study.
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering

- Quantity Surveying
- Building / Construction Management
Bursaries are only available from the sophomore year of study and will cover the following expenses.
- Annual academic registration
- Tuition fees
- Examination fees
- Prescribed textbooks
- Monthly allowance for living expenses – including accommodation in residence, food and traveling expenses.
The company will pay directly to the related institution for the annual registration fees, costs of tuition and examination fees.
Bursaries are reviewed each semester, after examinations, based on the student’s academic performance and renewed annually. All bursaries are granted on merit but preference is given to black (Africans, Coloured and Indian) applicants.
After graduation, students who were granted as awardees of the Murray & Roberts Bursaries will be required to work at Murray & Roberts for the equal duration of their bursary award (including any suspension period). In-Service training periods are excluded from this period. The service obligation period will commence after successful completion of studies / after graduation.
Murray & Roberts Bursaries Prerequisites
Students must satisfy the following criteria in order to be granted the Murray & Roberts Bursary. Failure to complete and satisfy all requirements will lead to the application not being considered.
- Students must be a South African citizen or permanent resident
- Completed Matric or Grade 12 and passed in Mathematics and Science
- In possession of a Matric National Senior Certificate with University exemption
- Students must be accepted by the chosen university or university of technology for the specific course
- Studying full-time in one of the aforementioned fields of study at a recognised South African university or university of technology that is acceptable to Murray & Roberts
- Students must provide proof of their current academic results
- Students must achieve and maintain a minimum overall average of 65%
How to Apply for Murray & Roberts Bursaries
As of April 2016, Murray & Roberts has taken a strategic decision to end its online application process due to the down turn of the global economic climate, which has had a significant impact on the industry. The selection panel now deals directly with universities to select eligible students for the bursaries.
Students who are interested in applying for the Murray & Roberts Bursaries must apply directly to the university they are attending, as the company will no longer accept online or external bursary applications.
Applicants will be required to provide clear copies of the following documents along with their applications. It is to be noted that all items listed below are compulsory to be submitted otherwise the application will be disregarded.
- Certified copy of valid personal identity document (ID) for South African citizens
- Certified copy of proof of permanent residence for South African permanent residents
- Certified copy of Matric or Grade 12 certificate
- Latest tertiary academic records
