The Basic Education Sector Employment Initiative called the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative School Assistant 2023 is slated to begin soon.
The Department of Basic Education aims to provide unemployed young people career and training possibilities in the educational sector as part of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PES).
Young people are urged to enter their information on SA Youth if they are interested in the opportunity to work as Education Assistants and General School Assistants in Phase IV. They can also access additional learning and employment opportunities on the system as a bonus for signing up on the SAmobi website.

About the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative School Assistant 2023
A fresh batch of young people is the focus of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative School Assistant 2023. This will guarantee that learning and employment possibilities spread widely throughout all communities.
The programme continues to have a good influence on the lives of the young people hired as school assistants. More than 830 000 job possibilities have been established since the start of the campaign.
The youth continue to gain from their involvement in a professional environment and have developed important skills. As a result, they have been able to contribute significantly financially.
Participants will receive a lot of training with the goal of expanding their skill set and improving their employment prospects. Young people recruited for the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative School Assistant 2023 can expect to receive training in the following areas:
- e-Cadres
- Care and Support Assistants (CSA)
- Curriculum Assistants
- Reading Champions
- Handymen or women
- Sport and Enrichment Assistants (SEA)
The programme will concentrate on finding ways to lower youth unemployment. According to data gathered from prior projects, the majority of the young people are unemployed graduates who lack the necessary experience to advance into employment.
In order to ensure that people who studied Education or are interested in it as an area of study are directed to paths that will lead them back to the sector, the programme will offer experiential learning.
The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative School Assistant 2023 Requirements
According to the Department of Basic Education, eligible candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 34 as of right now. Additionally, candidates cannot be enrolled in school, in training, or receiving a government grant at the time of application.
Women and young people with disabilities are welcome to apply for this enlightening experience as well.
Additionally, candidates must reside within 30 kilometres of a farm or rural school or within 5 kilometres of an urban school. This phase is aimed at a different group of young people who were not involved before.
The department stated that in order to be eligible to become an Education Assistant, one must have achieved matric English proficiency. A qualification certificate at NQF Levels 4, 6, or 7 will be advantageous. Meanwhile, people with college degrees, particularly those in education, will be given preference.
A matriculation is not necessary to be hired as a General School Assistant, yet having a trade certificate will be helpful.
Furthermore, candidates must be good at working with others and in groups if they want to work in the educational sector. Additionally, candidates must be academically interested, have excellent communication skills, and be a good listener.
The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative School Assistant 2023 Application
Follow the steps below to apply to the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) Phase IV:
- Go to SA Youth.
- Register for the program. The process will take four minutes. However, you can just log in using the same log in details if you have already registered on SA Youth or Harambee.
- When you have registered, the opportunities at the schools closest to the address you have given will appear and you can apply.
- Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to complete your application.
Then, those who are selected for shortlisting will be required to prepare the following documents:
- A latest Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Testimonials from former school, local chief, or church leader
- Police clearance certificates
- Affidavit or Declaration by applicant stating he or she has no criminal record while waiting for the police clearance
- Certified qualifications such as Matric
- Certified copy of identity document or passport
Candidates who are selected for placement will have an opportunity to receive training on various skills that will equip them for future employment opportunities.
Applications for the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative School Assistant 2023 open on 26 September and end on 16 October 2022. Successful candidates can expect to be invited to an interview in November and December 2022.
Then, all successful candidates will be placed in the school for several months depending on the department in which they are in charge. For example, the contract dates for those residing in the Northern Cape will be divided into two groups starting on 1 February and 1 May 2023 respectively.
Meanwhile, the contract date for the candidates who are successful in KwaZulu-Natal will be from 1 March to 30 September 2023. The successful candidates will also receive a stipend of R4 081.44 per month or less than 1% of the UIF contribution.
