About Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)
Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is a South African higher education school that was formed by merging three technikons: Technikon Northern Gauteng, Technikon North-West, and Technikon Pretoria.
The Tshwane University of Technology provides for about 90,000 students, according to statistics, as the number of students registering each year rises quickly.
As a result, it has grown to become South Africa’s largest residential higher education institution.
The university occupies eight campuses: Pretoria, Soshanguve, Ga-Rankuwa, Witbank (eMalahleni), Mbombela (Nelspruit) and Polokwane. Two faculties, namely the Faculties of Science and The Arts, have dedicated campuses in the Pretoria city centre.

1. Vice-Chancellor and Principal

The Tshwane University of Technology is currently on the lookout for a dedicated and responsible Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
This five-year, performance-based position is the most senior leadership role at the university.
Ultimately, the remuneration package will be market-related.
Among the responsibilities of a Vice-Chancellor and Principal are:
- Providing intellectual and strategic leadership to the largest contact university in South Africa
- Reporting to the Council
To qualify, candidates must:
- Have earned a PhD or equivalent qualification;
- Have at least 10 years experience in a senior executive leadership role at an academic institution of substantial size and complexity;
- Have a full professorship (that meets the TUT criteria for professorship);
- Be a recognised scholar and a thought leader in his/her field of expertise;
- Own a firm commitment to the values of creative independent scholarship, shared governance, and constructive critical thinking;
- Demonstrate the ability to lead and work effectively with academic, research and support staff who are diverse with respect to race, gender, socio-economic status, interests and capabilities;
- Have a track record in teaching and research;
- Be responsible for the development of a vibrant academic culture in support of the university reaching its strategic objectives;
- Possess an outstanding academic and administrative record, including a recognised level of professional achievement commensurate with an appointment at a comparable institution in or outside of South Africa; and
- Have global academic, research and industry networks and partnerships.

2. Part-Time Lecturers

Faculty: Arts & Design

The Office of the Executive Dean in the Faculty of Arts and Design has a part-time position for lecturers at the Arts Campus.
The key performance areas cover:
- Lecturing English Communication skills and English for Academic Purposes to first-year students
- Developing learning material on MyTutor and integrate appropriate technology in teaching and learning
- Assessing learning outcomes using appropriate assessment methods in line with the TUT Policy on Assessment
- Capturing assessment marks on ITS, track and monitor at-risk students
The minimum academic requirement for lectureship is a Master’s degree (NQF 9) in English/Language practice or equivalent qualification in a language-related field.
Besides, candidates must have three years of teaching experience at a university to qualify for the position.
Also, it’s highly desirable if they possess practical knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning related to the acquisition of Academic and Occupational English.
