BMW Learnership

The complexity and level of technical competency required to produce BMW products has resulted in an occupationally directed learning program that provides sufficient knowledge and skills to meet the minimum technical requirements of the various technologies, with a specific focus on Autrotronics and Mechatronics. The three year BMW Learnership program commences annually on the 1st of March and is conducted by the BMW Technical Training Department at accredited external service providers. It offers participants the opportunity to develop skills and gain BMW specific experience as well as formal Artisan qualification on successful completion of the program.
Participants of the BMW Learnership program will benefit from the following:
- Structured learning program in a world class production plant
- Mentoring by a qualified artisan with years of work experience
- Training in a fully accredited training center, equipped with state of the art training aids
- Being training by professional accredited trainers who are professional in their fields of expertise
Applications for the BMW Learnership program will be accepted annually during October and only applicants who have Grade 12 (St 10) with both Mathematics and Science results of 50% and higher will be considered. Other requirements include:
- Be South African citizen and permanent resident
- Have a driver’s license
- Be computer literate in Office Suite
- It would be advantageous to have tertiary technical qualification
- It would be advantageous to have technical motor industry experience

Another BMW Group program for school leavers is the BMW Skills Program. The unit-based 18-month BMW Skills Program is a selection of specially synchronized Unit Standards developed to qualify unemployed students in the Assembly and Logistic working environment. The aim of this Program is to enhance the knowledge of the students and enable them to practically apply their newly acquired skills on the production line according to production processes and work standards. The BMW Skills Program not only opens promotional, growth and further job opportunities for participants, but also strengthens the company’s skills base.
As a successful BMW Skills Program applicant, you will benefit from the following:

BMW Bursaries
This financial support and development program for high potential future employees, offers participants paid vocational experience, the opportunity to participate in dialogue development sessions with BMW associates, individual projects and assignments as well as the potential to further participate in the BMW SA Graduate Program. Financial support includes the payment of registration and class fees, accommodation as well as prescribed book and examination fees. Bursaries will be awarded on merit and to be eligible for the bursary, students must have completed at least their first semester at University and achieved an academic average of 70% and above to be considered for the program.
To apply for BMW Bursaries, send your application via e-mail to careers.bmwza@bmw.co.za. Applications will be accepted from August to November but program intakes will take place in the first quarter of the year. BMW Bursaries will be advertised annually on the company website.
